The Fundación Canaria Living Lab para la Investigación (FCLL) is a private, non-profit institution, recently created, which, although based in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, has the vocation to provide services throughout the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands.
The FCLL’s aim is to promote and support top quality research, contributing to the general benefit of society and improving the competitiveness of the Canarian economy, by generating technological knowledge, carrying out R&D&I activities, developing and managing spaces for data generation and live experimentation (living labs and hotel labs) and promoting their application to the business fabric with a public-private collaboration model. The Foundation’s main objective is therefore fundamental research, industrial research or experimental development and to widely disseminate the results of these activities through teaching, training, publication or knowledge transfer; the generation of data and knowledge, acting as an element of development and innovation, with special emphasis on disruptive technologies (thinking about the future), enabling (thinking about people) and sustainable (thinking about the planet), which clearly connects the requested project with the profile of the organisation.
Consumption patterns and the digital revolution are contributing directly to companies, which are facing critical transformations on a regular basis. This directly affects their strategic orientation towards the market and their exchange relationships with consumers.
The main objective of this training action is to train and educate Canarian society in digital transformation by studying the most up-to-date technologies in these verticals.
The Fundación Canaria Living Lab para la Investigación (FCLL) is a private, non-profit institution, recently created, based in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, whose general objective is to offer twelve training programmes aimed at the general public with a desire to improve and develop professionally and in the workplace, people actively seeking employment and mainly professionals considered to be particularly vulnerable groups, such as those under 30 and over 45 years of age.
All the workshops will be given in a mixed way: face-to-face and tele-training in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Lanzarote and Tenerife, and will have a duration of 60 hours.
The main intention of these training actions is to provide participants with the necessary tools for specialisation in fields related to emerging and cutting-edge technologies. In order to be competitive, it is essential to have up-to-date knowledge and skills that are of great value in the chosen professional sector, in this case the technology sector, in order to improve not only the professionalism of the worker but also his or her entrepreneurial skills. Creative and innovative skills are essential for students, which are essential when it comes to providing new and more efficient solutions to problems and challenges already known within the sector, their organisations and their particular contexts. These workshops offer the necessary tools and knowledge to specialise in the new trends originating from the metaverse, from the acquisition and understanding of theoretical knowledge to the creation of avatars and hyper-realistic environments, as well as the implementation of interactive functionalities between them.
According to the European Commission’s Digital Economy and Society Index (DESI) report, Spain is the most digitised large country among the EU Member States. One of the key factors in achieving this position is the integration of digital technologies, which is a great improvement compared to the previous period (2021 report). However, the level of mastery of these technologies is basic. This is why training programmes are needed in digital skills, more specifically in advanced technologies, where there is a gap.
Thus, the training programmes presented in this report aim to train and certify the population of the Canary Islands in advanced information technologies, with the aim of:
The general objective of this project is to provide students with theoretical and practical knowledge of advanced technologies and their application in the technology sector: in improving competitiveness and/or entrepreneurship and in solving problems in the sector.
The specific objectives are as follows:
a) Unreal Course.
The main objective of the training actions described above is to introduce students to the visual programming world of Unreal Engine 5. This graphic engine presents native tools that greatly facilitate the understanding of originally complex programming concepts, thus allowing the creation of audiovisual projects in a simpler and more intuitive way than the more classical programming counterparts. This, in turn, will have an impact on the ease of learning for students and on the application of knowledge in potential companies interested in creating new products related to cutting-edge interactive audiovisual content.

b) Metahuman Avatars and Metaverse Course.
These training actions have been created with the aim of introducing students to new trends in the creation of photorealistic quality metaverses using state-of-the-art technologies. These metaverses are composed of highly detailed interactive three-dimensional environments and avatars through which users interact with these environments and with other users, which highlights the importance of these training actions.
